IT Industry Participation

You can earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) toward your CompTIA certification renewal by engaging in a variety of relevant IT industry activities.

Receive CEUs for these activities:

• Teach or Mentor
• Create instructional materials
• Participate as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in a CompTIA exam development workshop

How to Earn and Receive Your CEUs

Teach or Mentor

You can earn 1 CEU for each hour of teaching or mentoring. Follow these requirements to earn and receive CEUs.

• Timing: All teaching or mentoring must be completed during your three-year renewal cycle. Teaching on the same content can only be submitted once during that period. ​
• Relevance: At least 50 percent of the content you are teaching or mentoring on must relate to one or more exam objectives for the certification you’re renewing. Example: You cannot teach or mentor on A+ content and receive CEUs for Security+.
• Documentation: Submit the completed activity including the following information:
• Teaching
1. Lesson plan or syllabus with your name as the instructor.
2. Description of the content covered.
3. Date the course was taught.
• Mentoring
1. Content objectives as they relate to the CompTIA exam being renewed.
2. Description of the content covered.
3. Dates and length of time mentoring occurred.
4. Signed document from mentee that mentor dates and times are valid.

Create Instructional Materials

Follow these requirements to earn and receive CEUs. You can earn 2 CEUs for each hour of materials creation.

• Timing: You must create the instructional materials during your three-year renewal cycle. The same materials can only be submitted once.
• Relevance: At least 50 percent of the instructional materials must relate to one or more of the exam objectives for the certification you’re renewing.
• Documentation: Submit the following documentation to receive CEUs for creating instructional materials:
  1. Lesson plan or syllabus with your name as the author
  2. Copy of the instructional materials
  3. Date the materials were created

Participate as a SME in a CompTIA Exam Development Workshop

You can earn 1 CEU for each workshop hour that you participate as a CompTIA Subject Matter Expert. Follow these requirements to earn and receive CEUs.

• Timing: You must complete the workshop during your three-year renewal cycle.
• Relevance: The workshop you are attending must correspond to the certification you are renewing.
• Documentation: Submit a signed letter from the CompTIA workshop coordinator confirming your successful participation.
